What Is a Medi Spa? Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting One

If you have ever heard the words medi spa and thought, “Lovely… but what actually is one?”, you are definitely not the only one.

Is it a beauty salon? An aesthetics clinic? A spa with a few clever machines?

The short answer is: a little bit of all three, but with a bigger focus on advanced treatments, expert advice and finding the right option for you.

At Saddle House Medi-Spa, we look after everything from skin and aesthetics to body treatments, hair restoration and pelvic health, all in a setting that feels calm, welcoming and very far from intimidating.

So, what actually is a medi spa?

What is a medi spa?

A medi spa, sometimes called a medical spa or med spa, sits somewhere between a traditional spa, beauty salon and aesthetics clinic.

You still get the relaxed, looked-after experience you would expect from a spa, but the treatments tend to go a little further.

A medi spa may offer treatments for concerns such as:

  • Fine lines and signs of ageing
  • Skin texture and pigmentation
  • Acne and congestion
  • Hair thinning
  • Unwanted hair
  • Body contouring
  • Pelvic floor weakness
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Injectable treatments

There is often some very clever technology involved too. But the most important part is not the machine or treatment name, It is the consultation.

A good medi spa should take the time to understand what is bothering you, what you want to achieve and whether the treatment you have in mind is actually the right one.

Sometimes it will be. Sometimes we will suggest something different. And sometimes we may tell you that you do not need treatment at all.

That is exactly how it should be.

How is a medi spa different from a beauty salon?

There is definitely some crossover, but the main difference is usually the type of treatments on offer.

A beauty salon will often focus on things like nails, waxing, brows, lashes, massage and facials.

A medi spa generally works with more advanced treatments and technology, particularly for concerns around skin, ageing, body, hair and wellbeing.

For example, you might visit a beauty salon for a relaxing facial. At a medi spa, you might come in because you have noticed pigmentation, fine lines, redness or a change in your skin texture and want to know what can actually be done about it.

From there, we can look at your skin, talk through what is happening and recommend a treatment based on what it genuinely needs.

So yes, the experience should still feel lovely. We just like there to be a bit of science behind the lovely too.

Is a medi spa the same as an aesthetics clinic?

Not quite.

An aesthetics clinic will often focus more heavily on injectable treatments such as wrinkle-relaxing treatments, dermal fillers and skin boosters.

A medi spa can include all of that, but it usually has a wider treatment offering.

At Saddle House, aesthetics is only one part of what we do. We also work with advanced skin treatments, laser hair removal, body treatments, hair restoration and pelvic health.

That means you do not have to arrive knowing exactly what treatment you want.

You might know your hair is thinning. You might be struggling with bladder leakage when you cough or exercise. You might want to improve your skin but have no idea where to start.

Or you may simply look in the mirror and think, “Something has changed.”

That is enough.

What treatments can you have at a medi spa?

Every medi spa is different, but at Saddle House we look at the whole picture: face, skin, body and wellbeing.

Our treatments include areas such as:

Skin and aesthetics

From Hydrafacial and medical microneedling to chemical peels, skin boosters and injectable treatments, the focus is always on what your skin or face actually needs.

We are much more interested in natural, considered results than making everyone look the same.

Laser hair removal

For anyone tired of shaving or waxing, advanced laser hair removal can offer a longer-term option.

At Saddle House, treatment is planned around your skin, hair and individual suitability rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Body contouring

Treatments such as Emsculpt NEO can help strengthen and tone certain areas while also targeting fat in the treatment area.

We see it as something that works alongside a healthy lifestyle, not instead of one.

Sadly, we have yet to discover the machine that replaces vegetables entirely.

Pelvic health

Bladder leakage and pelvic floor weakness are much more common than people realise, but that does not make them any less frustrating.

Treatments such as EMSELLA can support both women and men experiencing certain pelvic health concerns in a discreet and comfortable setting.

And yes, we have heard it all before.

You do not need to feel awkward talking about it.

Hair restoration

Hair thinning can affect confidence more than people often realise.

At Saddle House, we offer hair restoration treatments including Purasomes alongside medical microneedling for both men and women.

The first step is always understanding what may be causing the thinning and whether treatment is appropriate.

Do I need to know what treatment I want before I book?

Absolutely not.

Some of our best consultations start with: “I have no idea what I need, I just know this is bothering me.”

That is completely fine.

Social media is brilliant for discovering treatments, but it can also make it very easy to convince yourself you need something because you saw someone else having it.

You may come in asking about filler when what you really want is better skin quality. You might think one machine is right for you when another would suit your concern far better. Or you may need much less treatment than you expected.

Our job is not to agree with whatever treatment name you walked in with. Our job is to help you work out what will actually give you the best result.

How do you choose a good medi spa?

This bit matters.

Advanced treatments should never be booked purely because somewhere has a beautiful Instagram feed or a very impressive before-and-after.

A few things are worth checking.

Who is behind the clinic?

Look at the experience and qualifications of the person leading the business.

Saddle House Medi-Spa is nurse-led by Leanne Nichols, Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Leanne spent ten years in the NHS before moving into aesthetics, where she has now worked for fifteen years and carried out more than 25,000 treatments.

Who will perform your treatment?

Different treatments need different skills.

Our team has individual areas of expertise covering advanced skin, laser hair removal, body treatments, pelvic health and hair restoration.

That means we can match you with the right person rather than expecting one practitioner to do everything.

Do they actually listen to you?

You should never feel rushed through a consultation.

You should understand why something has been recommended, what the alternatives are and what result you can realistically expect.

And you should always feel comfortable saying no.

A consultation is not a contract.

What standards does the clinic work to?

Saddle House Medi-Spa is Save Face accredited and is led by an Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Safety may not be the most exciting part of your treatment journey, but it is probably the most important.

What happens at your first medi spa appointment?

Usually, we talk.

Groundbreaking, we know.

But honestly, the conversation is often the most important part. We want to know what has brought you in, what you would like to improve and what matters most to you.

From there, we can talk through the options. Sometimes there is one obvious treatment. Sometimes there are a few. Sometimes we will recommend starting somewhere completely different from where you expected.

And occasionally, we will tell you to leave things alone. There is no pressure to book anything there and then.

We would rather you understand your options properly and make a decision you feel comfortable with.

What makes Saddle House Medi-Spa different?

For us, it comes down to being personal.

There is no standard face, body or treatment plan that we are trying to create. We want to understand what you want, what would suit you and what is actually worth doing.

Yes, we have advanced technology. Yes, we take the clinical side seriously. And yes, there is a lot of experience behind the team.

But we also want Saddle House to feel like somewhere you can relax, ask questions and be completely honest about what is bothering you.

We are based in Alresford, Hampshire, close to Winchester, in a private setting with on-site parking. You may even spot the odd peacock wandering around outside.

Very advanced technology inside. Slightly less predictable wildlife outside.

We think the balance works quite nicely.

Frequently asked questions about medi spas

What does a medi spa do?

A medi spa offers advanced treatments for concerns involving areas such as skin, ageing, hair, body and wellbeing, usually within a more relaxed and welcoming setting.

What is the difference between a medi spa and a normal spa?

A traditional spa tends to focus mainly on relaxation and beauty treatments. A medi spa usually also offers advanced skin, aesthetic and technology-led treatments designed to target specific concerns.

Are medi spa treatments only for women?

Not at all. Many treatments are suitable for both men and women, including skin treatments, hair restoration, laser hair removal, body treatments and pelvic wellbeing.

Do I need a consultation first?

For many advanced treatments, yes. A consultation allows us to check suitability, understand what you want to achieve and make sure the treatment being considered actually makes sense for you.

Where is Saddle House Medi-Spa?

Not sure where to start?

Good.

You do not need to have it all figured out before you come and see us.

Tell us what is bothering you, what you have noticed or what you would simply like to understand a little better.

We will talk through the options, explain what we think would help and tell you honestly if we think something is not right for you.

Sometimes the best place to start is simply a conversation.
